So, I headed up there for a bit of a drive and to take some photos. You can drive right to the top — the road is sealed if you’re coming from Warburton, and you could even do it on a motorbike. The summit is flat and open, with plenty of space to walk around, have a snowball fight, or build a snowman. If you head a little off to the side, you’ll find a good hill for sledding.

Between 1925 and 1950, Mount Donna Buang was actually a popular ski resort, with lodges, cafes and all that. But in the 1950s, better roads were built to places like Lake Mountain and Baw Baw, and people started heading there instead. The ski runs at Donna Buang were just a bit too short.

These days, people come up in winter for a bit of fun in the snow, and in summer, they come to bushwalk, check out the unique Snowgums and Alpine Ash trees, and climb the lookout tower, which adds another 20 metres of height and gives you some pretty amazing views.

What’s even more special is that I filmed one of my first videos up there. If you’ve seen any of my videos, you’ll know the style — scenic shots set to a good piece of music. This Donna Buang video was one of my first in that style. I’ve definitely improved since then, but I’m still pretty happy with how it turned out:
